GREETING

Presider:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

R. Amen.

V. The Lord be with you.

R. And also with you.

INTRODUCTION TO THE CELEBRATION

The celebrant introduces the celebration in these or similar words.

Beloved brethren,
it is good to gather in these times of division
to be a sign of unity and faith.
It is good to gather in these times of disillusionment,
to reaffirm our hope in the Risen Lord
and recommit to our vision of fullness of life for his people.

Through the intercession of Our Lady,
Mother of Divine Hope,
let us ask for healing and renewal from the Lord
for ourselves and our broken nation
that we may have the strength and courage
to work together for God’s reign in our land.

A pause for silent reflection follows.

PENITENTIAL RITE

UST-CS Representative:

Lord of hope,
you gathered us in unity,
for united in you, we find our strength.

Forgive our sins of distrust,
for the times we give up on ourselves,
on one another and on you.

Pause for a brief moment of silent reflection. (1-2 seconds)

By the power of your Resurrection,
give us hope to believe in you.

Presider, or cantor:

Panginoon, maawa ka sa amin.

All respond:

Panginoon, maawa ka sa amin.

The representative of UST-CS lights a lamp in front of the crucifix.

SCS Representative:

Lord of hope,
you bore our sufferings and shared our death,
to show us the path that leads to eternal life.

Forgive our sins of discouragement,
when in the darkness, we let ourselves be overcome by fear,
instead of seeking your light.

Pause for a brief moment of silent reflection. (1-2 seconds)

By the power of your Resurrection,
give us hope to embrace your Cross.

Presider, or cantor:

O Kristo, maawa ka sa amin.

All respond:

O Kristo, maawa ka sa amin.

The representative of SCS lights a lamp in front of the crucifix.

SJS Representative:

Lord of hope,
you came to share our weakness
to give us your strength.

Forgive our sins of despair,
for the times we refuse to believe in our nation,
and no longer dream of your Kingdom in our midst.

Pause for a brief moment of silent reflection. (1-2 seconds)

By the power of your Resurrection,
give us hope to strengthen one another.

Presider, or cantor:

Panginoon, maawa ka sa amin.

All respond:

Panginoon, maawa ka sa amin.

The representative of SJS lights a lamp in front of the crucifix.

The Presider says the absolution:

May almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.

R. Amen.

OPENING PRAYER

Let us pray.

All pause for silent prayer.

Lord God,
you have given the Blessed Virgin Mary to your Church
as a beacon of unfailing hope.

In your goodness,
grant that all who are burdened by life’s cares
may find in her consolation and strength
and those who despair of salvation
may find their hearts warmed and uplifted
as they turn to her in their need.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God for ever and ever.

R. Amen.

FIRST READING

***

A star from Jacob will arise, and a scepter will come forth from Israel.

A reading from the book of Numbers 24, 15-17a

Then Balaam gave voice to his oracle:
The utterance of Balaam, son of Beor,
the utterance of the man whose eye is true,
the utterance of one who hears what God says,
and knows what the Most High knows,
of one who sees what the Almighty sees,
enraptured and with eyes unveiled.

I see him, though not now;
I behold him, though not near:
A star shall advance from Jacob,
and a staff shall rise from Israel.

or,

Hope in the Lord in your affliction.
$
A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah 51, 1-7a

Listen to me, you who pursue justice,
who seek the LORD;
Look to the rock from which you were hewn,
to the pit from which you were quarried;
Look to Abraham, your father,
and to Sarah, who gave you birth;
when he was but one I called him,
I blessed him and made him many.

Yes, the LORD shall comfort Zion
and have pity on all her ruins;
her deserts he shall make like Eden,
her wasteland like the garden of the LORD;
joy and gladness shall be found in her,
thanksgiving and the sound of song.

Be attentive to me, my people;
my folk, give ear to me.
For law shall go forth from my presence,
and my judgment, as the light of the peoples.

I will make my justice come speedily;
my salvation shall go forth
(and my arm shall judge the nations);

In me shall the coastlands hope,
and my arm they shall await.

Raise your eyes to the heavens,
and look at the earth below;
though the heavens grow thin like smoke,
the earth wears out like a garment
and its inhabitants die like flies,
my salvation shall remain forever
and my justice shall never be dismayed.

Hear me, you who know justice,
you people who have my teaching at heart.

The Word of the Lord.

R. Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Based on Psalm 62

Response:

My soul finds rest in God alone. My salvation comes from him.
He alone is my rock, my salvation, my fortress.
I shall never be afraid. I shall never be afraid.

1. Trust in Him at all times, O people of God;
pour out your hearts to Him.
He is our refuge and He is our hope.

2. Rest your heart not in riches nor honor of the world.
Weighed out with the heart of God,
these blow to nothingness, vanish like breath.

3. You Yourself, Lord, have said:
“I am your strength, I am your deliverer,
loving and merciful, Father of all.”

SECOND READING

***

Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer.

A reading from the letter of Paul to the Romans 12, 9-16a

Brethren: let your love be sincere;
hate what is evil,
hold on to what is good;
love one another with mutual affection;
anticipate one another in showing honor.
Do not grow slack in zeal,
be fervent in spirit,
serve the Lord.
Rejoice in hope,
endure in affliction,
persevere in prayer.
Contribute to the needs of the holy ones,
exercise hospitality.
Bless those who persecute you,
bless and do not curse them.
Rejoice with those who rejoice,
weep with those who weep.
Have the same regard for one another;
do not be haughty but associate with the lowly.

or,

Our hope does not disappoint.

A reading from the letter of Paul to the Romans 5, 1-5

Brethren, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access (by faith) to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God.

Not only that, but we even boast of our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope, and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the holy Spirit that has been given to us.

The Word of the Lord.

R. Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION See Lk 1, 45

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Blessed are you, O Virgin Mary, for firmly believing
that the promises of the Lord would be fulfilled.

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

GOSPEL

Mary and Elizabeth find in Jesus the fulfillment of their hope in God’s promise.

The Lord be with you.

R. And also with you.

V. + A Reading from the holy gospel according to Luke 1, 39-56

R. Glory to you, O Lord.

Mary set out
and traveled to the hill country in haste,
to a town of Judah,
where she entered the house of Zechariah
and greeted Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting,
the infant leaped in her womb,
and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit,
cried out in a loud voice and said,
"Most blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
And how does this happen to me,
that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears,
the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
Blessed are you who believed
that what was spoken to you by the Lord
would be fulfilled."
And Mary said:
"My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
For he has looked upon his handmaid's lowliness;
behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.
The Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
His mercy is from age to age
to those who fear him.
He has shown might with his arm,
dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart.
He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones
but lifted up the lowly.
The hungry he has filled with good things;
the rich he has sent away empty.
The Lord has helped Israel his servant,
remembering his mercy,
according to his promise to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his descendants forever."
Mary remained with her about three months
and then returned to her home.

The Gospel of the Lord.

R. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

HOMILY

Following the reading of the Gospel, the Presider gives a homily, After the homily, a period of silence is observed.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL

Presider:

Happy are those whose help is Jacob’s God,
whose hope is in the Lord, their God.
(Ps. 146, 5)

With faith and confidence,
let us come to the Father of Jesus
and cry out to him in hope.

R. May your kindness, Lord, be upon us;
we have put our hope in you.
(Ps. 33, 22)

1. For the Holy Church,
that she may carry out her prophetic mission,
by courageously denouncing evil
and steadfastly proclaiming the vision
of the coming reign of God.
Let us pray to the Lord.

2. For our nation,
that in the midst of growing disillusionment
among our people,
we may find new faith
in our capacity for change
and our potential for a just and peaceful society.
Let us pray to the Lord.

3. For an increase of priestly and religious vocations,
that the Lord may call to his side,
men and women of worthy desires,
to lead his people into the Kingdom
and strengthen them in their struggle here on earth.
Let us pray to the Lord.

4. For life-term prisoners and those who are terminally-ill,
for all who desperately yearn for God’s assuring presence in their lives.
That they may not lose confidence in the Lord’s abiding mercy
but continue to trust in his loving plan for them
even when the Lord seems distant and absent.
Let us pray to the Lord.

5. For peace in the Middle East.
That the Lord may deliver the helpless
from the violence of war
and move conflicting parties
to repentance, solidarity and forgiveness.
Let us pray to the Lord.

6. For all of us here gathered,
that sustained by the grace of the Risen Christ,
we too may become ministers of hope
and strengthen one another in faith
to persevere in the work of healing our land
and building the Kingdom of God.
Let us pray to the Lord.

God of the lowly,
helper of the oppressed,
supporter of the weak,
protector of the forsaken,
savior of those without hope,
(Jud 9, 11)
none who hope in you shall ever fail in strength. (1 Macc 2, 61)

Through the prayers of Mary,
strengthen our hope and increase our faith
in these trying and difficult times.
Open our eyes to see the vision of your Kingdom
and open our hands to work for your reign.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

R. Amen.

PREPARATION OF THE ALTAR AND OF THE GIFTS

The Presider takes the paten with the bread and, holding it slightly raised above the altar says:

Blessed are you Lord, God of all creation.
through your goodness we have this bread to offer,
which earth has given and human hands have made.
It will become for us the bread of life.

R. Blessed be God forever.

The Presider, or a concelebrant, pours wine and a little water into the chalice saying inaudibly:

By the mystery of this water and wine
may we come to share in the divinity of Christ,
who humbled himself to share our humanity.

Then the Presider takes the chalice and, holding it slightly raised above the altar says:

Blessed are you Lord, God of all creation.
Through your goodness we have this wine to offer,
fruit of the vine and work of human hands.
It will become our spiritual drink.

R. Blessed be God forever.

The Presider says inaudibly:

Lord God, we ask you to receive us
and be pleased with the sacrifice we offer you
with humble and contrite hearts.

He may now incense the offerings and the altar.

Afterwards, a minister incenses the Presider, concelebrants and the congregation.

Next, the Presider stands at the side of the altar and washes his hands saying inaudibly:

Lord, wash away my iniquity;
cleanse me from my sin.

Standing at the center of the altar, facing the people, he extends and the joins his hands, saying:

Pray brethren, that our sacrifice
May be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.

R. May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands
for the praise and glory of his name,
for our good and the good of all his Church.

PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS

Lord,
receive with this offering
the prayers of your people
so that, through the intercession of Blessed Mary,
the mother of your Son,
no request of ours may go unanswered,
no petition uttered in vain.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

R. Amen.

***

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

Mary is an example of hope in God.

V. The Lord be with you.
R. And also with you.

V. Lift up your hearts.
R. We lift them up to the Lord.

V. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
R. It is right to give him thanks and praise.

Father, all-powerful and ever-living God,
We do well always and everywhere to give you thanks
with all our hearts
for your gift to our human family
of Jesus Christ, the author of our salvation,
and of Mary, his Mother, the model of divine hope.

Your lowly handmaid placed all her trust in you:
she awaited in hope
ánd conceived in faith the Son of Man,
whom the prophets had foretold.
With untiring love, she gave herself to his service
and became the mother of all the living.
Mary, the fairest fruit of Christ’s redeeming love,
is a sister to all the children of Adam
as they journey toward the fullness of freedom
and raise their eyes to her,
the sign of sure hope and comfort,
until the day of the Lord comes in glory.
And so, with all the choirs of angels in heaven,
we proclaim your glory
and join in their unending hymn of praise.

The choir and the assembly together sing the Sanctus.

SWISS SYNOD EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

The Presider, with hands extended, says:

Blessed are you,
O God of holiness:
you accompany us with love
as we journey through life.
Blessed too is your Son, Jesus Christ,
who is present among us
and whose love gathers us together.

As once he did for his disciples,
Christ now opens the Scriptures for us
and breaks the bread.

He joins his hands and holding them outstretched over the offerings, says, with the concelebrants:

Great and merciful Father,
we ask you to send down your Holy Spirit
to hallow these gifts of bread and wine,
that they may become for us

He joins his hands and, making the sign of the cross once over both bread and wine, says:

the body + and blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

He joins his hands, and continues:

On the eve of his passion and death,
while at table with those he loved,

He takes the bread and, raising it a little above the altar, continues:

he took bread and gave you thanks;
he broke the bread,
gave it to his disciples, and said:
He bows slightly.

Take this, all of you and eat it:
this is my body
which will be given up for you.

He shows the consecrated host to the people, places it on the paten, and genuflects in adoration.

Then he continues:

When supper was ended, he took the cup;

He takes the chalice and, raising it a little above the altar, continues

again he gave you thanks
and, handing the cup to his disciples, he said:

He bows slightly.

Take this, all of you
and drink from it;
this is the cup of my blood,
the blood of the new
and everlasting covenant.
It will be shed for you and for all
so that sins may be forgiven.

Do this in memory of me.

He shows the chalice to the people, places it on the corporal, and genuflects in adoration.

Let us proclaim the mystery of faith.

The choir and the assembly sing the Acclamation.

Then with hands extended, the Presider says, with the concelebrants:

And so, Father most holy,
we celebrate the memory of Christ, your Son,
whom you led through suffering and death on the cross
to the glory of the resurrection and a place at your right hand.
Until Jesus, our Savior, comes again,
we proclaim the work of your love,
and we offer you the bread of life and the cup of eternal blessing.

Concelebrant One:

Renew by the light of the gospel
the Church of the diocese of Cubao,
strengthen the bonds of unity between the faithful and their pastors,
that together with Benedict our pope, Honesto our bishop.
and the whole college of bishops,
your people may stand forth, in a world torn by strife and discord,
as a sign of oneness and peace.

Concelebrant Two:

Be mindful of our brothers and sisters,
who have fallen asleep in the peace of Christ,
and all the dead whose faith only you can know.
Lead them to the fullness of the resurrection
and gladden them with the light of your face.

When our pilgrimage on earth is complete,
welcome us into your heavenly home,
where we shall dwell with you for ever.
There, with Mary, the Virgin Mother of God,
Joseph her most chaste spouse, with the apostles,
the martyrs, Thomas and Charles and all the saints,
we shall praise you and give you glory.

He joins his hands.

through your Son, Jesus Christ.

The Presider takes the paten with the host and the chalice. Lifting them up, he sings or says, joined by the concelebrants:

Through him,
with him,
in him,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours,
almighty Father,
for ever and ever.

The choir leads the people in their response:

DAKILANG AMEN
Francisco, SJ

Amen! Amen! Amen!
Amen! Amen! Amen! Amen!

THE LORD’S PRAYER

The Presider introduces the Lord’s prayer in these or similar words:

And so, with confidence,
we pray the prayer he himself gave us.

The choir leads the assembly in the singing of the Lord’s Prayer.

AMA NAMIN
Hontiveros, SJ

Ama namin,
sumasalangit Ka,

The Presider with hands extended, continues alone:

Deliver us Lord from every evil,
and grant us peace in our day.

and protect us from all anxiety
as we wait in joyful hope
for the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

R. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,
now and for ever.

SIGN OF PEACE

The Presider, with hands extended, says aloud:

Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles:
I leave you peace, my peace I give you,
Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church,
and grant us the peace and unity of your kingdom
where you live for ever and ever.

R. Amen.

The Presider, extending and joining his hands, adds:

The peace of the Lord be with you always.

R. And also with you.

Then the Presider may add:

Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

All present make an appropriate sign of peace.

maawa Ka sa amin, maawa Ka sa amin.

Kordero ng Diyos na nag-aalis ng mga kasalanan ng sanlibutan,
ipagkaloob Mo sa amin ang kapayapaan.

Meanwhile, the Presider takes the Host and breaks it over the paten. He places a small piece in the chalice, saying inaudibly:

May this mingling of the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ
bring eternal life to us who receive it.

PRIVATE PREPARATION

The Presider says inaudibly:

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,
by the will of the Father and the work of the Holy Spirit
your death brought life to the world.
By your holy Body and Blood
free me from all my sins and from every evil.
Keep me faithful to your teaching,
and never let me be parted from you.

COMMUNION

The Presider genuflects. Taking the host, he raises it slightly over the paten and facing the people says aloud:

This is the Lamb of God
who takes away the sins of the world.
Happy are those who are called to his supper.

R. Lord, I am not worthy to receive you,
but only say the word and I shall be healed.

The Presider says inaudibly:

May the body of Christ bring me to everlasting life.

He reverently consumes the body of Christ. Then he takes the chalice and says inaudibly:

May the blood of Christ bring me to everlasting life.

He reverently drinks the blood of Christ.

After this he takes the paten or other vessel and goes to the communicants. He takes a host for each one, raises it a little, and shows it saying:

The Body of Christ.

R. Amen.

Communion Antiphon: Let us live holy and devout lives in this world
as we look forward in blessed hope
to the joyful coming of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ (Titus 2, 12-13)

While the faithful receive communion, Eucharistic songs are sung.

The vessels are cleaned by the priest or acolyte after the Communion or after Mass, if possible at the side table.

Lord, may I receive these gifts in purity of heart.
May they bring me healing and strength, now and for ever.

A period of silence may be observed after communion, or a psalm or song of praise may be sung.

Salve Regina,
Mater misericordiæ,
Vita, dulcedo et spes nostra, salve!

Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia, ergo, advocata nostra,
illos tuos misericordes oculos ad nos converte.
Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,
nobis, post hoc exilium, ostende.
O clemens, o pia, o dulcis, Virgo Maria!
